Beau and Sebastian

  • Jan. 18th, 2008 at 11:01 AM
I bought my sister some Crochet books, hooks and yarn for her birthday this year, and, whilst I was over in England we went through them together, and tried to pick it up as best we could (she did better than me!) The result is that I can now do simple crochet!

For years and years I've wanted to learn so I could make some cute amigurumi (a Japanese fad for crocheting and knitting little toys), when I got home I had a look at some of the crochet charts in a Japanese book I picked up a few years ago, and from there designed and made my first amigurumi, Sebastian!!!!!!!

This little guy has been going every where with me. I already started on my next project, I think I might have caught that crochet bug that's been going around recently.

I need to give knitting ago too. This one is just crochet, and it's pretty easy to pick up, it's basically just a series of tubes stuffed and sewn together, you should pick up some needles/hooks too and give it a go!!!!!!!

Haha I know what you mean about unfinished projects, I know when I die I'll leave a mountain of unfinished projects!!!! The cool thing is for these little guys it's all really basic crochet so they are nice and easy to make!

He's adorable! I've got a few books on amigurumi on my shelves, but haven't worked up the nerve to try anything yet. My last crocheting adventure was in high school, and somewhat less than a success. :-/

He's so cute. Since Christmas I've been crocheting in the evenings and have so far made a whale (actually two Chris stole my first one) most of a hamster as I still need to buy him eyes and a nose and I have nearly finished an octopus. Thank you for the gift of crochet.

Speak soon,

Alex

so lovely. I have a few crochet books and needles, but have only ever done really simple things. Hopefully now when everything calms down after the house move, I can concentrate on my knitting and crochet again!

So cute!!
He is adorable! I've been thinking of making my own amigurumi friend but I've never crocheted before. Is it relatively easy for people who have been crocheting for a while, or can people who've never crocheted in their life find it fairly easy?

Also, this suggestion may take a while, but I'd like to see you attempt at making a parasol. The idea would fit in perfectly with your theme. :) And everyone likes lace!

Re: So cute!!
I'd never crocheted before, these guys seem relativly easy to make, and they are small so it doesn't take so long to do either!

I have been planning a parasol for a while, found a place to buy the hardware, and doing a little research to see if I can make it good to use in the rain as well as shine!

Just need to work out which I want to tackle first, parasols or hats?!

So cute
Aw, how cute! I'm just starting out in crochet and I'm thinking of making various amigurumis for my friends for christmas. I know this is going to sound personal, and totally understandable if you don't want to give this information away, but do you think it's possible to give the pattern for your amigurumi? I'm just starting out and I don't really know what I'm doing yet so it'd be really helpful if I start somewhere and then morph it into my own. I'm not too good with increasing in the rounds yet, but i'm getting there! Btw, any tips for crocheting?
