Cotton Candy Chemise a la Reine

  • Jun. 28th, 2008 at 4:36 PM
I finished up a new period lolita outfit this week, my new lolified chemise a la reine!

The dress itself was a nice easy project, but I just didn't feel it was done till it had a hat to match!

At first I started the project out of fascination because i didn't really like these dresses much in the past, and also because I thought it would be nice and light for Summer. I found however that I do like these dresses, but for most people myself included, they do need a corset, so not so much for a modern Summer day.

Much more romantic that I normally like, I wasn't expecting to want to wear this once it was finished, but now I've tried it on I'm looking forward to wearing it out!

Also happy because the hat looks great with nor traditional lolita dresses, and even with regular street clothes! I bought a book on millinery recently and looking forward to wear more hats!

Your whole outfit is lovely, but I especially adore the hat. What millinery book have you picked up?

It's called From the Neck Up, you can get it 2nd hand on Amazon, I've only just started reading it, but it seems really good so far!

Haha I tried it with my bumroll but it was too big! This is all my own bum! (I have a few petticoats too)

Absolutely adorable dress and hat! You are just an amazing designer, seamstress and milliner! I love making period costumes for myself, but my dolls seem to take up most of my sewing time.^^

Dolls can be fun to sew for too, mine are sadly kinda neglected in the sewing stakes lately.

i am soooo inlove with the hat <3

As for the dress it reminds me of mexico ^^lll maybe its the whole antique spanish style which i love so much. It NEVER goes out of style and its so free flowing.
Being half mexican i have seen similar dresses but a bit more um modern and the bottom part is not as lolita like but its just soooo adorable, both interpretations <33333

I simply love it :)

I hope i made sense XP

I thought of Mexico too! I think the ruffle at the neck was a big part of it.

Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! I wish you'd design those for Candy Violet -- that's EXACTLY the style of dress that I adore! (As pretty as my Kambriel dress is, as you can see, it wasn't quite cut to hang like yours.)

The long line, the simple bust... I know all incarnations of a chemise are a bit plain, but oh! Oh! This is so lovely; you've given me such hope. Even in black, I think this would still look very lolita, no? Eeee!

(I also hope you don't mind me constantly mimicking your projects, but I swear, you're such an inspiration to me. I spend most of last night practicing whitework -- well, in my case, blackwork.)

Are you wearing a corset underneath that dress? I may be conceited, but you've seen my figure; I'm hoping I can pull that off without one. (Basically, since my hips are practically panniers in and of themselves... ;9)

Eeeeee!

I can't wait to see your embroidery! I'd love to see what that kind of thing looks like in all black!

It would be nice to make some kind of chemise dress for Candy Violet next Summer, my only fear with this one is it has SooooOOooo much poof up top, I actually have my corset on under it with the back closed, to get a real waist in it. I think it would look good without, especially with a more hourglass shape like you have. So you never know where this one will go?

Very cute, I love it! Especially the hat. I'm in summer dress making mode, so I may have to experiment with this idea myself! I really need to come up with a few cute, cheap summer dresses by the beginning of August.

You could make a half boned corset out of a single layer of twill or coutil, with taped boning channels, and that wouldn't be too heavy for summer, I think. Hmmm...

For this I just have my single layer white underbust I made http://pupe.jp/item/5sDtIGsdL8gC/. it's comfy normally, but Virginia Summers are so hot and humid it's murder!

Beautiful outfit, so ladylike. The hat really makes it! I'm in love with it, such a cute little straw hat and the flowers! There vintage right? I just adore those soft muted colored vintage flowers. :D

You know I got lucky with the flowers! The pink were from AC Moore and didn't have that usual plasticy look to them so I bought a bunch, the velvet leaves are from a milliners shop, and the straw flower from a really good local fabric shop! They do have a nice nintage look though don't they?

Once again, amazing work. It always makes me so happy to read one of your posts about the latest cool thing you've made. The dress is so cute!! The hat is awesome. If I might ask, what millinery book was your guide? That looks like it must have been a lot of fun to make.

This lot isn't for sale I'm afraid. The special wardrobe section on here is just my hand made outfits I make, they are kind of like catwalk pieces I guess. With a bit of luck you'll start seeing ideas from them appearing in the pieces we have manufactured for our labels in the future though.

I'm curious about the hat fabric, Did you use pinking shears? I find that it tends to fray.
[info]vivcore wrote:
Feb. 13th, 2009 01:21 pm (UTC)
Yup I just used pinking shears. A lot of fabrics fray, but if you find the right ones they work pretty well, especially on something like this where the fabric doesn't move or get disturbed much.
