Tutorial Fairy!

  • Aug. 12th, 2008 at 10:54 AM
Septembers issue of Shojo Beat has another of my tutorials for any one interested! It's on making your own personalized pencil cases!

I used the lovely Sebastian as the model for mine, and can't wait for my evening class to start again so I can take this little guy out with me!
We also got a mention in the Get Japanese Fashion article which was rather cool!

On a nerdy note I was excited to see a new series Honey Hunt in there from the creator of Hot Gimmick. I loved Hot Gimmick so I was kinda excited to see this one pop up!

I saw your tutorial. Having the custom printed fabric really sets it apart. You've gotten pretty established with Shoujo Beat (and I like it).

I'd been dying to try out the inkjet fabric for a while now, the texture is a little funky, but it's great fun!

I would expect it to be sort of stiff and rough.

That is so cool that your tutorials are always in Shoujo Beat, and it's an easy way to plug Candy Violet :D

I do love doing the articles for Shojo Beat, it's a lot of fun and something a bit different from my usual work. I just need to come up with some new ones I think!

I wish I was interested in the comics more. I've always liked their first section. They seem to have their act together so much more than the TokyoPop staff.

I've been getting more excited about the manga in there lately, there are 3 titles I;m an avid fan of right now!

Heehee! I got my copy a few weeks ago, since I subscribe, and was squeaking over this. (Again, I wish we had a more local fabric store! I want inkjet fabric! Brilliant!)

Actually, I was flipping through it again a few minutes ago, and was thinking of your past ones -- do you keep copies of all your past articles? I need to read your teacup tutorial! (That issue was right before my subscription kicked in, poo. Eventually I want to collect back issues, but that's kind of a daunting undertaking.) I figured if I asked nicely, you might let me read it/clue me in sometime we visited. XD

I love Shojo Beat! Even though I feel like I (and some of my friends, cough cough ;) are older than the majority of the demographic, it still feels like MY thing and OUR thing, you know? No shame in being a Cute Girl in her twenties; we can just be good role models for the younger girls. <3 I don't feel like I need to be an old lady and read old lady magazines! I love Shojo Beat.

I still have the old one, I have a HUGE mountian these day of nearly all the SBs after the first couple of issues!

It's funny about the age thing, A while back when I first met the editor she told me that a lot of Bookstores put it in with the kiddy magazines like My Little Pony, I had to laugh at saucy manga like Nana being put on the shelves for 6 year olds!

I know what you mean though, I love my Shojo Beat and Shonen Jump, but I'm also all about Sew Beautiful and some of the older demographic magazines. I think the only magazine you have to be truly old for is The Peoples Friend http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_People's_Friend I don't think I ever delivered this to a person under 70 when I had a paper round. I kinda want to pick up a copy now!

As for fabric we should go out to G-Street sometime and drag as many NoVa lolis as we can gather! Sue, Katherine and me went out there together to get kanzashi silk, we can make it a Sunflower (the vegan Chinese place) and fabric meetup!

I love checking in every so often on you from vivcore.com ^_^
As much as I like your little projects, I have a suggestion for one!
Your photos are always really nice, how about a tutorial on photography for other lolitas to best show of their treasures?
Hope it isn't too forward of me to suggest *^_^*

I think photography tutorial could be a good one. I'd have to do a lot of research first though. Because of my job I have a pretty nice Digital SRL camera and a photographic studio set up with lights etc, so I think my photos come out nicer sometimes due to equipment rather than any real skill. Put a point and click camera in my hands and take away my studio lights and it all goes wrong!

Ah cute!
I have the cute book where they also teach you how to make pencil cases, but I was wondering, how did you get the bunny print on the pencil pouch. Is it something that was already on the fabric or did you do some customization in the design?
