Home Sweet Home Improvements

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 10:11 AM
A few days ago I was tired, now I'm knackered!  Home improvement abounds! We've been trying hard lately to get the house in a more homey state lately, and with my parents coming over we've tried getting it in a better place faster!

A few weeks ago a friend noticed our deck was kinda rotten with little trees growing out of some of the boards, so with the help of Dan our pal who can build or fix anything in the world, we have a new deck!

I love stepping out on the boards and pretending in my head I'm out on a ship (I have been told this is crazy, but I think after growing up in England on patios instead of decks, those wooden boards just hold a kind of magic for me!)

So the outside is looking good, and the inside is still a work in progress. Lot's of furniture coming from Ikea, and been clearing room for both that and people. The amount of trash I took out yesterday made me feel bad, and Friday pick up isn't going to be much better!

Rooting through cupboards and closets has been an adventure, I've found yards of wonderful fabric that needs sewing up into something, as well as several unfinished projects from days gone by

Still, it's exciting if hard work. We haven't felt all that rooted here since I moved, but now things are feeling settled, and it'll be nice to have a place we'd feel proud to have people over in.

I think that's wonderful and imaginative! Certainly not crazy, but then again, I'm that kind of person too. ^_^

Thanks! My friend thought we should ge the composite instead of wood because it's easier upkeep, when I told him I'd miss the pirate ship feeling he looked at me a little funny!

What did you get from Ikea? I want book shelves from there so badly but I don't have a vehicle to get them to my place.

My parents have a deck on their house, and when I was little I used to pretend it was a ship! Theirs is pretty high off the ground so when I was little it seemed reaaaally tall. I would throw rocks off of it and pretend I was shooting canons!

Sometime next year I will have to come visit. Maybe around the cherry blossom festival?

yes! You should come for cherry blossom time again! it was so much fun last time!!!!!

Our Ikea shop has been pretty comprehensive! We have bookshe;ves for the front room, a dresser, 2 night stands and a vanity table for the bedroom, new dining table and chairs (the old one is about to collapse!) and a load of the Billy shelves for my work room to hold all my craft, sewing and work stuff.

We had this dream when we were in Ikea that we'd somehow be able to fit it in the car. We were wrong and had to get it all delivered.

They still the sell the Spokas!

I still have my Spoka believe it or not!

Your place will look lovely with all the new furniture. You will have to take photos once things are all put together!

So do I! I found my missing charger in the clean up today. They are the best night lights ever made!

As soon as the house comes together I'll go mad with photos I think.

Ikea <3

I've gotten a fair amount of stuff in the car from there before, but we always try to bring the Suburban so it's not an issue >_> We just love Ikea too much.

One step at a time! :)

That's so cool you have a deck! And that's very nice of your friend to help. :) Good luck on finishing your projects!
