i should be in bed

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 11:29 PM

i have to get up in less then four hours to catch a 6:30 bus to new york. thanks to my sister, mind you. this is the girl who sleeps in till noon. she wanted to get there early even though our train doesn’t leave there until 11 (yes, we’re busing up and training it back). it is going to be a long day with a lot of walking.

it seems that we may need a good laugh tonight. i was doing my daily once over of watashi no tokyo today and mari posted a link that had me rolling this evening. i was seriously in tears. if you need a good laugh check out don’t judge my hair. a few great things came out of the 80’s… hair was not one of them.

So I've recently started a large project, an 18th century hand quilted petticoat. Yeah I know what kinda smartie starts a project involving a layer of wool batting in July...For more adventures in hand sewing...

Outfit from last night. Whoops, cut off the shoes

Was supposed to wash my hair but got caught up talking with [info]soopuhstar online before going to see Close but Not Quite at Chain Reaction with [info]kittun so I just pinned it up. I think it looked cute.

But my god. How does she deal with hanging out with all those kids?!?!?!? Chain Reaction is ALL AGES. Never again -__- The place itself is horrible but the band...wow, for such younguns they had terrific stage presence....especially their vocalist Wes.

Classy Chic - Finished

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 9:43 PM

Just finished up this Paint foal custom, now named Classy Chic. ^_^ Working on this extra tiny foal was a real challenge! Even though I've done the Stablemate size before, the foal is just so much smaller to hold on to.

Model: Breyer Stablemate Foal

Size in inches: 2 x 3/8W x 2L

1. I am stunned by the generosity of others on a fairly frequent basis recently.

2. What to Say During Sex. In diagram form--no images, just words. It's hilarious.

The premise is that educated and affluent women were under attack.

Is it really true, though?

Could it be that people somehow expect a higher standard of behaviour from them, simply because they'd been to university and are rich? So that when they behaved foolishly (or were stupid, dangerous, anti-social, or whatever), the dissappointment made the people lashed out more viciously?

Of course that assumption is wrong. Highly educated and rich people are not exempt form foolishness.

Argh, I'm so sleepy.

And there's July's Midnight Mystery Ride tonight. It starts at Kelly's Olympian, which is rather odd. It's a downtown motorcycle bar! WTF. I don't even know who's leading the ride. They're asking people to dress head-to-toe in one color. I think I can pull off varying shades of pink.

Maybe I'll take a nap.

While My Ukulele Gently Weeps....?

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 7:05 PM
Sounds dubious, but actually quite awesome. Linked to me by [info]viennabelle--Virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro! This guy is really incredible. Proof that ukulele is not, in fact, as it was recently put to me, "guitar for lazy people".

The Shiny Squirrel :: Under The Root

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 6:05 PM

Jennifer Brown from Under the Root makes the most sexy and understated lingerie.

What is your background in design?

I began assembling used/vintage textiles into theatrical costumes during the high school years. Clothing came next while using a secondhand, black lacquer Singer and the miscellaneous textiles from garage sales, thrift stores, estate and church sales, and reclaiming used/found materials. After high school, I studied Business, Design, and Dance. I read tons of practical applications and found the greatest source for continuing on, oodles and noodles of practice.  While studying Dance at Columbia College Chicago, I realized that costumes played an intricate role for the performances. The availability in movement and projection of each design was tantamount for dancers, performers and individuals alike. Today, each handmade structure reflects the use of cottons and the grace of the human body.

Books!

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 6:27 PM
I just bought two older sewing books from a second hand store. The first book is "The Vogue Sewing Book of Fitting, Adjustments and Alterations" Published in 1972. The other book which I just couldn't pass up is "Singer Sewing Book" published in 1949. I paid $3.99 each.

I bought the first one cause, honestly, it looks like a half decent sewing book but the other one I got just because it's a vintage book but ended up being a pretty neat book to read through.

*In Which My Schedule Implodes*

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 5:42 PM
Too many July events that I was planning to attend have all landed on the same day-- tomorrow >_____< And it being a Saturday, and me having to work at night...yeah, me getting to all of them just isn't happening. So now, in addition to the St. Trinian's screening, I have to choose between:

* Philadelphia Record Fair
* Punk Rock Flea Market
* Bastille Day @ Eastern State Penitentiary

Argh! I really wish this stuff had been spaced out more evenly. Most of the time I have nothing to do, and when I do find a reason to go out, this mess happens O_o It's a hard call, but given my renewed mania for vinyl, I think I'm going to have to opt for RECORD FAIR!!! Forty vendors, and the admission is free after initial paid two-hour early opening. I'm not feeling all that competitive, so I have no problem with letting the hardcore collectors get their pilfering out of the way before I show up. I just want a couple of nice, leisurely hours of browsing. I can go straight from there to the movie, then home for dinner and a nap before work. And Sunday I can sleep ALL DAY. No, wait, have to do laundry again. Damn! Alright, I can sleep MOST OF THE DAY. Good enough.

Accessorized and Crystalized

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 6:11 PM
Soooo much work!! I still need to make some minor adjustments to the main dress, and I'm experimentingwith some big ribbon roses, not sure if I'll have time to finish those or not yet though.

As for right now though I have accessories!!! I finished up the fan with a few mounting disasters, made a large head bow, brooch to go on the neckline, and a matching purse!
Photos under here..... )
This was my first time making a purse, it's really rough, but I learned a lot, so next time will be much better!

I wish I could capture the sparkle from all the crystals, they are really shiny!!!

Still need to finish up the main dress, I don't have long to go so should have the final update soon!
