Candy Violet, Zombie Cake

  • Nov. 24th, 2009 at 10:07 AM
A friend pointed this out to me today, there was a zombie dressed in Candy Violet on Cake Boss! Ok I'll admit I'm an Ace of cakes girl, but it's always funny to see where our clothes pop up! She's around the 1:55min mark

So Lovely, So Close

  • Nov. 23rd, 2009 at 10:40 AM
After our Paris trip over the Spring, I've suffered strongly from macaron cravings. It seems there are a lot of places around that sell them, but not that many that sell macarons that taste even close to what we had in France. I found a guy here in Northern Virginia that used to bake macarons for Laduree (the guilded castle that made me fall in love with these tiny treats!) and this weekend was finally able to pick up a box and see if they were everything I'd been craving since April...

They are! At last, a little crunch, a bit of soft and a rich filling. Now I have to make an effort to not order a box every week. So Saturday night was macaron night.

Green Sweets, Green Dress

Apologies for the radio silence this month. This time of year is always crazy, it seems like it sneaks up faster every year, and will be all over just as quick, so as a result I've been toiling more than posting!

That said yesterday we went out and enjoyed some good food and green sweets which matched my new dress!

I posted some photos over at [info]my_quaintrelle .

Too Much Sugar in LA

  • Sep. 26th, 2009 at 8:30 AM
So last weekend we flew off to LA to see some good friends over there, they have the worlds cutest baby, he's about to turn one and it was great meeting this rad little dude for the first time! Apparently he's a little shy of strangers at the moment, but he climbed right into my lap, I think we are friends now?

We love Max!... )
We spent a few days sampling the culinary adventures LA has to offer, fresh made red bean buns, street tacos and taco trucks, and drank so many unusual sodas I actually made myself sick. Also was excited to find some rather good macarons here at last! It's become something of a mission after having them in France to find some that come even close to those. (found a promising lead for some here in DC to check out now too) Got some shopping in too which you can see over at my Poupee Girl.

It's always great seeing Raul, Michelle and now Max. I'm looking forward to the next trip over, or their next trip up here!

Perhaps I'll build our glass cabinet we bought months ago today to house our Kid Robot adventures?

DC More Than Just Suits!

  • Sep. 7th, 2009 at 3:14 PM
It's been a while since a big group of local lolita got together in our area, but Saturday thanks to [info]kawaiinekochick it was frills in DC once again!

Starting off with pastries and macarons, we moved out for shopping and a stroll in the lovely late Summer weather (much cooler walking down hill for the shops!) The biggest surprise of the day was finding a fantastic fabric shop had relocated to George Town! getting every one out of there was apparently difficult, myself and a few others were pulled in by the unusual laces and milinery flowers, and could probably have camped out there till Tuesday!

Every time I get to go out with the local frilly folk I feel so happy to have such a wonderfully friendly and fun bunch of girls and guys close by. I can't wait to see every one again at the next big get together!

Fantastic Find!

  • Aug. 8th, 2009 at 3:43 PM
Maybe a few people have picked up I REALLY like folding fans! They've been a bit of an obsession of mine since I was little. Whilst looking for more info on my latest Fancy Girl feature (New little article on fans as fashion recently added)  I picked up "Fans" which is a study of a large collection of antique fans from Russia. As well as finding out all kinds of new and interesting things, I also ran into this!...

I can only imagine the inspiration for my favorite fan from the Marie Antoinette movie!
Photos and another surprise under here... )
I had a bit of a nerd out moment with it all. Now I can't wait for my new sticks to arrive to start creating something new! (is it sad to have 2 MA posts in a row?)

Mothra is Alive!

  • Aug. 5th, 2009 at 9:36 AM
I planted a lot of red flowers this year, and that brings humming birds and butterflies to my garden!! I haven't seen any hummingbirds this year, but I almost did, kinda...

Yesterday I was out trimming my rosebushes when I saw a hummingbird!!! I was so excited, then I noticed the "hummingbird" had antenna??? That was kinda even more exciting, it turned out to be a hummingbird clearwing moth! 2 things I love in one! The little guy was flitting from flower to flower sucking up nectar then vanished. Sadly I didn't get a photo of my moth, but that's what the internet is for.

I Survived Otakon!

  • Jul. 23rd, 2009 at 8:55 AM
So last week was Otakon! I bet you're expecting a wonderful collection of photos of cosplayers and lolita right!? Sadly I don't really have any >__<

This was my first time at Otakon, and so much fun! The fashion show went off well, and all my models were so pretty and so lovely to work with!! Thanks so much [info]archfaith   [info]toymoonhorse  [info]electrichobo  and Rachel!  [info]toujourspret  was great keeping everything running smoothly backstage, I don't know what we would have done without her! Unfortunately I didn't get any photos, but there was a photographer there and someone making a video, so as soon as those are up I'll post again!

After the show I kind of lost every one, after I got all the outfits gathered up, and failed to find my badge every one had gone to lunch, so I didn't see much loli action after that. I was sad not to get to hang out with [info]puregirlblue  and her lovely fella, I haven't seen them in so long! Hopefully they'll make it across the river again soon.

We were only really there for Saturday, and did a lot of walking around, bought some AP socks, and met so many people from my friends list!! It was so exciting finally being able to see people in person!!! I even met a few people from my Poupee Girl!

You all already know what I wore to the con, though I did make some gloves at the last minute! (see poupee girl).

All in all it was lot's of fun! The people were nice, and next time I hope to be able to really hang out with all the lovely Lolita i missed this year!

I Shall Go To The Ball!

  • Jul. 14th, 2009 at 5:20 PM
So Who's going to Otakon!!???! This is going to be my first year attending, and I'm pretty excited! I keep seeing people on my friends list posts from there each year, it would be so nice to meet some of you guys if you are going to be there!!!

I made myself a pretty over the top dress to wear there recently, and then got carried away with accessories!!
What I'll be wearing to the ball... )
If nothing else the dress is big enough I should be easy to spot! I'll be doing the lolita fashion show on Saturday if anyone wants to say "hi" and if you can't make it there and you see a big purple dress shuffling through the crowds come say "Hello" it would be nice to really put a face to all the journals!

See you in Baltimore!
